Hey, I'm Josh

I'm a senior product designer living and working in Seattle, WA.

Over my nearly 20 year design career, I've spent the last 16 years specializing in user-centered product definition and delivery. I've collaborated with multi-disciplinary teams at Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, United Healthcare and Nike to develop new software experiences that help people do their best work.

I utilize cross-disciplinary skills in visual and user experience design to create apt solutions that are refined through strategic and aesthetic lenses. Everything you see in this portfolio has been done by me (unless stated otherwise).

I value work environments that foster and uphold cross-discipline collaboration as the path to success. I work to build teams that place trust at the core of their interactions and utilize that to break down silos that perpetuate bad organizational habits and slow team progress and limit success.

Outside of work, I'm a father of two, a Seattle Sounders fan and have been neglecting my piano for three years now.

My Philosophy

When I practice design, I live to find the 'nugget of truth' every opportunity has. It might be a hidden quality of the brand, or an essential need the software hasn't addressed yet. Finding it means drawing from varied sources: what I observe firsthand and what I gather from others. That nugget is often hard to find because most design briefs start from assumptions rather than evidence. The real problem is usually hiding underneath the stated one.
